Are Oatmeal Waffles Healthy?

Yes! These healthy oat waffles are the perfect combination of protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats to start your day with a balanced meal. They have no refined sugar as an added bonus! Try eating your waffle with eggs on the side for an even higher protein meal.

Another bonus is that these waffles are gluten free, so you can share this delicious recipe with all your friends.

Ingredients in Oatmeal Waffles

Old-Fashioned Oats – Ideally organic to avoid unnecessary pesticides (like glyphosate). If you need a gluten-free waffle recipe, use certified gluten-free oats.

Milk of Choice – Use whatever you drink! My preference is raw, whole milk in this recipe.

Eggs – For the best nutritional value, pastured eggs are the ticket

Melted Coconut Oil

Real Maple Syrup or Honey – Adds the perfect amount of sweet to these waffles!

Vanilla Extract

Salt – My always forever favorite salt is Redmonds real salt

Baking Powder – Beware of aluminum and opt for aluminum-free baking powder

Other Things You Will Need

  • Waffle Iron
  • High speed blender or food processor
  • Silicon brush (optional)

How To Make Easy Oatmeal Waffles

My favorite thing about this recipe is how quickly it comes together. Many recipes will require you to make oat flour first, but for this recipe you just throw all the ingredients in a blender, mix it up and cook! Delicious waffles couldn’t be easier.

Step One: Turn on your waffle maker to preheat while you make the waffle batter. If you have the option, keep the heat on the lower end of the spectrum. My waffle maker has a scale of 1-5 and I find that 2 is perfect for these waffles so they don’t overcook.

Step Two: Combine all ingredients in your blender. *

Step Three: Blend on high until you have a smooth batter

Step Four: For best results, let the waffle batter rest for about 10 minutes while your waffle maker preheats. This helps the oats to really soak up the liquid and will give the waffles the perfect texture.

Step Five: Brush your waffle maker with a little bit of melted coconut oil to prevent sticking.

Step Six: Pour roughly half of the batter onto the waffle iron.

Step Seven: Cook the waffle until it is cooked through and golden brown. When the waffle is done cooking, carefully remove and repeat with remaining batter.

Step Eight: Add your favorite topping and enjoy!

*If you don’t have a blender, you could use a food processor. If you don’t have either of them, just mix all the ingredients together really well. The waffles will be a different texture but still delicious!

How To Store Oatmeal Waffles

If you happen to have leftovers (we rarely do), store them in the fridge in an airtight container. These also freeze great for a quick breakfast on busy mornings. To freeze, first flash freeze the waffles in a single layer on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes or until they no longer stick together. Then put them together in a freezer bag or other airtight container. When you’re ready to eat them, warm them up in a toaster oven or microwave.

Topping Ideas

These amazing waffles are delicious as is, or try topping them with fresh fruit, granola, and pure maple syrup. You also can’t go wrong with peanut butter!

Oatmeal Waffle Variations

These healthy waffles would also be delicious with chocolate chips, blueberries, or banana chunks mixed in. Or, try cinnamon oatmeal waffles by adding 1 tsp of cinnamon to the batter.
