Ingredients for Chunky Avocado Salsa

What makes this salsa so delicious is it’s fresh flavor and simple ingredients. The fresh lime juice and orange juice really take it to the next level. Trust me a bowl of this salsa will not last long!

Roma Tomatoes

6 fresh tomatoes. You can use regular tomatoes if that’s what you have, but romas work the best because they are a firmer tomato and don’t fall apart when you dice them. As an alternative, cherry tomatoes would also work! You will just need a lot more of them.

Avocados

You will need 3 ripe avocados. Avoid over ripe avocados so that they won’t mush when you cut them into pieces. I love salsas with an avocado base, the healthy fat is so good for you and is more filling than traditional salsas.

Sweet Onion

1/4 – 1/2 of a sweet onion, depending how sweet or hot it is. You can always add more onion at the end if it doesn’t have enough.

Jalapeños

You can’t make salsa without jalapeños! You will need 2 medium jalapeños, although if your jalapeños are really hot you could start with one. Depends on how spicy you like it!

1/8 cup Olive Oil

Orange

Fresh squeezed orange juice (from 1 orange) is the way to go for the freshest tasting salsa.

Lime juice from 4-5 limes

Fresh cilantro

1 large handful, diced into small pieces

2 Tb Honey

My favorite honey is always raw honey, but use whatever you like!

Fresh garlic

4 cloves minced

Spices: Cumin, paprika, onion powder, tumeric, salt & pepper

Tips for Success

If you don’t have a food processor, you can use a blender or just chop the jalapeño and onion as finely as you can.

Look for the perfectly ripe avocado. If they are underripe avocados they won’t be soft enough, and if they are overripe they will mash and the texture just won’t be the same. Finding the perfect avocado can really be an art form!

The great thing about this salsa recipe is that you can adjust the seasonings based on what you like. You can experiment with more citrus, more spice, and more or less seasonings. It’s pretty hard to mess it up!

How To Eat Chunky Avocado Salsa

This fresh salsa is so good on anything and everything. The classic is tortilla chips, which is amazing or course. Some of our other favorite ways to eat it are on tacos, burritos, and on scrambled eggs. I’d love to hear what you try this salsa on!

Flavor Variations

There are lots of ways to change up this salsa depending on what you’re feeling. If you like spicy salsa, add an additional jalapeño or try a spicier pepper like a habanero. You could also swap the tomatoes for mangos and make a delicious mango salsa. Swap the sweet onion for a red onion for a slightly different flavor.

Storing Leftover Avocado Salsa

I almost didn’t add this section, because leftovers? What are those? We never have any leftover salsa, but if you do, store it in a glass airtight container in the fridge. Its best if you use it within a few days, it tends to get really mushy after that.
