The Problem With Store Bought Granola

Take a look at the ingredients in this popular brand of granola:

WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED OATS, CANE SUGAR, SOY PROTEIN CRISP (SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, RICE STARCH), RICE FLOUR, CORN SYRUP, PEANUTS, PEANUT BUTTER, CANOLA OIL, HONEY, MOLASSES, SEA SALT.

Canola oil, and corn syrup are both concerning ingredients and not at all necessary in granola. This homemade version uses coconut oil, honey, and no artificial flavoring.

Ingredients For Peanut Butter Granola

For this recipe you will need just a few simple ingredients:

  • Organic rolled oats (or old fashioned oats) – oats are something I always try to buy organic to avoid glyphosate
  • Sliced almonds (Or your favorite nuts)
  • Peanuts – these really add a delicious extra crunch
  • Unsweetened coconut flakes
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt – unrefined salt is my go-to, I love redmonds real salt
  • Natural Peanut Butter – I like to use crunchy peanut butter, but creamy peanut butter will work great too. Watch out for sneaky hydrogenated oils listed as an ingredient in most peanut butter.
  • Raw Honey – Or, real maple syrup is a great substitute
  • Coconut Oil – a great alternative to unhealthy oils that are often used in the store version
