Reasons To Love Homemade Electrolyte Popsicles

Great For Kids – This tasty hydrating treat is perfect to give your kids on a hot summer day. Replenish their electrolytes and they feel like they are eating dessert. Win win!

Healthy Alternative – Most of the popsicles that you find in the grocery store are loaded with sugar, food dyes, and artificial ingredients. These popsicles are a much healthier alternative, and only have 3 wholesome ingredients! Sports drinks and other store-bought electrolyte drinks are often filled with junk too.

Endless Possibilities – These popsicles are so easy to customize, with endless flavor possibilities. You can swap your favorite juice, fruit, or flavor of electrolytes for different variations.

Why Electrolytes Matter

So what’s the deal with electrolytes? When we think about staying hydrated, most people reach for a glass of water. And while water is important, it’s only part truly hydrating. True hydration happens at the cellular level—and that’s where electrolytes come in.These essential minerals are involved in several processes in the body. Benefits and functions of electrolytes in the body include:

  • Helping to regulate fluid balance in the body
  • Nerve and muscle function
  • Supporting heart health
  • Improving bone strength
  • Maintaining brain health

When we sweat, exercise, spend time in the heat, we lose both water and electrolytes. Replacing just the water without replenishing lost minerals can lead to an imbalance, which may cause symptoms like headaches, fatigue, dizziness, and muscle cramps.

That’s why drinks (or snacks!) that contain both fluids and electrolytes are so important—especially for kids, athletes, or anyone spending a lot of time outdoors. We love to spend as much time as possible outside in the summer,  so I know my whole family will be reaching for these popsicles a lot. What a fun, refreshing way to stay hydrated and support your body with the minerals it actually needs, without the artificial dyes or excess sugar found in traditional popsicles!

These would also be great for kids with a stomach bug or other illness for an easy way to help them stay hydrated.

Ingredients in Strawberry Lemonade Electrolyte Popsicles

All you need is three ingredients to make refreshing and hydrating popsicles!

Frozen Strawberries – Strawberries are on the EWG’s dirty dozen list for some of the worst pesticide use. Buy organic to avoid them!

Organic Lemonade – I love the Santa Cruz lemonade – there are tons of flavor options too. Pay attention to the sugar content, some lemonade has more sugar than others!

Electrolyte Powder – Not all powders are created equal. Watch out for artificial sweeteners! My favorite is Relyte, or LMNT is good too.

Other Supplies You Will Need

  • Popsicle mold – It’s hard to make popsicles without a good mold. I have this one from amazon and it works really well.
  • Blender or food processor
  • Pyrex Cup or Funnel

How To Make Electrolyte Popsicles

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Blend until the strawberries are completely mixed in.

Most electrolyte powders will foam up in the blender, so let the mixture sit for a few minutes to let the bubbles dissolve.

Carefully pour the juice into the popsicle molds. A funnel or a pyrex glass measuring cup are helpful for this step!

Store the popsicles in the freezer.

There you have it, what a delicious way to stay hydrated!
